How to Build a Personalised Supplement Routine
Six steps to a routine that fits your body — not a random shelf of bottles.
Most supplement routines fail for the same reason: they're built around products, not around the person taking them. You buy a bottle because a friend swears by it, forget it after two weeks, and end up with a shelf full of half-empty jars. A personalised routine flips the order — start from your goal, your body, and your day, then choose what belongs in the scoop.
Step 1 — Define one clear goal
"Feel better" isn't a goal — it's a mood. Pick one primary outcome for the next 90 days: sustained energy, deeper sleep, immunity, sport performance, skin, longevity, or recovery from a demanding season. Everything downstream gets easier when the goal is specific.
Step 2 — Audit your baseline
Before adding anything, look honestly at five inputs:
- Diet. Broad and varied, or narrow and repetitive?
- Sleep. Consistent 7–9 hours, or fragmented?
- Training load. Sedentary, moderate, or heavy?
- Stress and travel. Steady, or high-intensity and long-haul?
- Life stage. Twenties, perimenopause, over-50, postnatal.
A stack that's right for a 28-year-old triathlete is wrong for a 48-year-old executive on three flights a week. Your baseline is the map.
Step 3 — Pick nutrients that map to the goal
Match each nutrient to the outcome you defined in Step 1. As a starting frame:
| Goal | Nutrients commonly emphasised |
|---|---|
| Energy | B-complex, iron (if low), CoQ10, magnesium |
| Sleep | Magnesium, glycine, vitamin D (daytime), L-theanine |
| Immunity | Vitamin D3, zinc, vitamin C, selenium |
| Sport & recovery | Magnesium, omega-3, vitamin D3, electrolytes |
| Skin & hair | Biotin (B7), zinc, vitamin E, omega-3 |
| Longevity | Omega-3, vitamin D3, magnesium, B-complex |
Anything that doesn't clearly map to your goal is a candidate to cut. Simpler stacks beat elaborate ones you don't take.
Step 4 — Get dose and timing right
- Fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K) absorb best with a meal that contains fat.
- B-complex is energising — take it earlier in the day.
- Magnesium is often taken in the evening because many people find it helps them wind down.
- Iron and calcium compete for absorption — don't dose them at the same time.
- Zinc on an empty stomach can cause nausea — take it with food.
Step 5 — Consolidate the stack
The single biggest predictor of results is whether you actually take the routine every day. Ten bottles on a shelf get skipped. One scoop in water doesn't. This is where a personalised formula earns its place: instead of juggling multiple products, you get up to 35 nutrients in one dose, tuned to your goals.
Step 6 — Reassess every 8–12 weeks
Your body isn't static, and your routine shouldn't be either. Every 8–12 weeks, check in:
- Did the primary goal move? Energy up? Sleep deeper?
- Did life change — new training block, travel, pregnancy, a stressful quarter?
- Anything you can drop because it's no longer earning its place?
With Bioniq, that reassessment updates your formula. With a shelf of bottles, it's a new shopping trip.
